Trying to Find Something to Blog About

My life hasn't been all that exciting lately but my kids finally gave me a little something that I thought might be blog worthy. I am probably stretching it as far as being interesting but it's the best I could come up with....

Nicklaus has started Jr. Jazz again this year. Adam didn't want him to play just incase a good golf tournament came up but it is such a short season that I figured he might as well play. He doesn't have to do the traveling team, that comes later, if he doesn't want to, but for now I think it's good excersise for him. He has a really good coach that is teaching them a ton of fundamentals. He had a really good game last night and scored 11 points and only ended up on the ground three times. He is always in the mix of players on the floor. I think he just wants to get hurt sometimes. His team is unbeaten but I should mention they have a kid on their team that is 6"1". It is fun to watch him play. He is such a competitive little guy. He isn't having fun if he isn't winning. I remember when he was little and we would go down to my grandmas house and Mahala would be jumping rope out back and it drove him crazy that she was better than he was. Hello she is a girl Nicklaus. Well he would come home and secretely go in his bedroom and practice and practice till he was as good as she was if not better. If he channels that competitiveness in a good way I am sure it will take him far.
Next comes Mahala's Dancing. She got to dance in her first high school basketball game last night. They did their military dance. It was pretty good but when you win state you have a lot of expectations on you. They will have all the kinks worked out I am sure by the time they go to state again. They should they practice about 4 hours of dance a day. I love watching Mahala dance but it is a ton of work, sometimes too much. She has her first competition on December 5th in Delta. I am really proud of her because as a freshman she has made every single dance they have done this year.
Well I told you I was stretching it but maybe once the holidays start I will have something fun to put on here.

One item of importance is that Nolan or Elder Britt as he is commonly know as now has got his visa. He will be flying out November 30th. I am happy for him and sad for me. I don't see why he couldn't just serve his whole mission in the MTC. I was fine with that. I will let everyone know his new address as soon as I get it. And if anyone is interested in following his blog just leave me your email address and I will send you an invite.

Where Did Fall Go?

This is a random post but I really don't have anything exciting going on to post about so I thought I would share some pictures of my yard this morning with you. I guess all you can say is this is just crazy Utah weather. I love fall, it is my favorite time of year. Things just seem to start falling back into a routine. I love the smells, sites and taste (come on, who doesn't love pumpkin roll?) of fall. BUT this is not in my description of fall. I hate snow. I hate being cold. I hate muddy floors, I hate paying to heat my house. So needless to say waking up to this didn't put me in to good of mood this morning. I guess I will go make some chicken soap or something to help bring me out of this funk.

Out my back door. Atleast 6 inches and still falling. Out my front door. And I didn't even mention the having to drive in it :(

Nolan's Farewell

Nolan's farewell is fast approaching. It is September 27 at 12:30 in the first and fourth ward chapel. When his farewell is done that will be the last thing on my list to check off. I have decided I am going to have a 360 in attitude. I am going to try my hardest to be positive and supportive. I want the blessings that come from having a missionary serving and I figured I wouldn't get them with a crappy attitude.
Just FYI Nolan has a blogsite set up for a quick way to write letters to everybody all at the same time. He will be able to answer your questions and let you know how he is doing and all about his mission all in one place, with a few pictures thrown in here and there. His site is eldernolanbritt.blogspot.com. His site will be private so if you wish to follow him on his mission then please email me your address. My email address is penniful@hotmail.com

The Great Outdoors...

Brielle thinks the chipmunk is a kitty and kept callling it meow meow.

Things are slowly getting checked off my "things to do before Nolan leaves" list. In fact we are down to just a few more things. We went up Beaver Mountain and stayed in a good friends cabin last week end. It is so beautiful up there. I think they have one of the prettiest canyons in the state and the cabin we stayed in is absolutely wonderful. You can't call it roughing it when you have a nice cabin like that. Adams mom and brother joined us along with Morgan, Kyle, and Brielle. It was so fun to spend the time together. Pat got to golf one last time with Nolan, and the boys (minus Nicklaus) had a sleep out on the deck and stayed up all night talking.

We played cards, went hiking, watched the Utes squeek out a win, roasted marshmellow, went fishing. Infact a funny story about the fishing. I love to fish and was raised on fishing. Adam professes to be a great fisherman but I have yet to see him catch a fish, EVER. Mark whose cabin we stayed at took us up to Kents lake and let the boys fish. Nicklaus has only gone fishing once before and it was about 4 years ago. He caught one fish back then so he is pretty unsure about this whole fish and worm thing. He gets his pole and casts his line out. He thought his marshmellow had fallen off and so he reels it back in and recasts. I am not kidding his line was maybe in for 15 seconds and he starts reeling it in again. I told him that he can't catch a fish if he doesn't keep the line in the water and he told me he had a fish. He reels it in and its a huge brown. Mark said it is the biggest fish he has seen ever come out of that lake. Mind you he doesn't know what to do. He gets the fish up to the edge of the shore and the fish gets off the hook. The fish starts flopping around. Nicklaus is panicing. I am yelling at him to reach down and pick the fish up but he just can't bring himself to touch it. The fish is flopping closer and closer down to the water so Nicklaus tries to start stomping it. He keeps missing cuz its flopping and it gets back into the water and swims away. It was the funniest thing I have seen in along time. He was so sad and disappointed in himself. He tried all the rest of the day and couldn't catch a one. I should mention that Nolan didn't dare reach down and pick it up either. I love spending time like this with my family.

From this..... to this

What a busy summer we have had working in the yard. We have had a lot of fun too but I am really excited about all this hard work we have done. We have been in our house nine years now and actually have the start of a back yard. We alway thought we would be able to do the whole yard in one year but realistically we found out that it was not ever going to happen. The best part of the whole project is that it was all Adam's idea. If any of you know Adam, you know how much he detest yard work. He did lose his cool one night when he came home from work and saw a big pile of rock dumped back there, don't forget I live on the rockiest property in Fillmore. I got them from a neighbor who was going to have them hauled off. I made a great retaining wall out of all the bigger rocks, now I can just add the stupid, small, pesky rocks to the many piles I had of my own. I can't wait to do more back there next year, when our pocket books and backs have recovered.

Birthday....Bryce Canyon....Back to School

Mahala's birthday was August 8th and she was feeling pretty sorry for herself because we couldn't celebrate until the next day. She wanted a cheese cake for her birthday cake and I felt stupid taking a picture with a cheese cake full of candles but now wish that I had. She got an organizer built in for her closet and new blinds for her bedroom and some clothes and alot of money.
Next was Nolan's birthday, on the 17th This was a hard birthday (no not just cuz I cry every day thinking about him leaving) but seriously what do you get a 19 year old who is going on a mission in a month. I tried finding something fun to buy him but every idea I came up with he shot down. Soooo he ended up with 5 more pairs of garments and a bunch of his favorite junk foods to help fatten him up before he looses all the weight in Mexico.
We went to Bryce for Nolan's birthday. It was so fun to spend that time together as a family, all except the part where Mahala and Nicklaus fought the whole time in the car because she touched his leg ,and he sneezed and didn't cover his mouth, and she ate all the good sun flower seeds, and he might of farted and it might of got on her. I know I will look back in a few years and miss these day, I know I will or that is what I am telling myself right now. Anyways it was beautiful there and I love the red rocks.

Back to school was different this year. It was weird having Nolan going to work instead of going to school and some how the high school just doesn't seem the same with out him there. Mahala danced in the opening assembly so she didn't even get to wear on of her cute new outfits, only this dance outfit which her dad thought was a little too tight. Nicklaus is a sweety and still prefers to have me walk him into the school as opposed to go in alone. I love that he loves me. I have never met a boy who is obsessed with shoes the way he is. Crazy to me cuz I don't even have a thing for shoes. Well I was going to put pictures of the two kids on there but they keep turning up side ways and I don't know how to rotate them so they are not on their side. So use your imagination on how cute they looked.
